Change Together – Free Learning Program

3 March 2022

Message from Anthony Shannon, Director, Early Intervention, Volunteering and Youth at DCJ

More than 400 NGO practitioners from across NSW have already enrolled in Change Together since its launch in November last year. The free learning program for eligible Early Intervention and Family Preservation NGOs is delivered virtually – making it accessible to services no matter where they are located or what their staff development budget looks like.

Feedback on the program has been positive. Practitioners have said the learning is practical, relevant and provides great networking opportunities.

New modules are now live on the Thrive learning platform to support practitioners in practice with:

  • Mandatory reporting
  • Commonly co-occurring issues in child protection

Each module is made up of eLearning units and a virtually facilitated workshop. Workshops for the new modules are scheduled for March and April, along with the existing topics:

  • Foundations of child protection (pre-requisite)
  • Culturally responsive practice
  • Trauma responsive practice

Change Together draws on the NSW Practice Framework and training for new caseworkers, so both DCJ and NGO practitioners are strengthening their practice across the sector in the same way. It also provides an opportunity for DCJ to learn from the innovative practice that is happening across the sector. Strong partnerships and shared practice will mean that children experience an effective team working to keep them safely at home with family.
