The goal of Family Preservation is to keep children safe, families together and prevent children entering out of home care.
Family Preservation services are available to families who are experiencing challenges impacting their capacity to support and parent their child.
Fams is committed to ensuring Family Preservation Services feels supported and their voices heard.
Examples of our work in this space include:
- In May 23, we submitted a comprehensive ministerial briefing to Minister Washington, summarising key points regarding the critical role of non-governmental organisations in delivering Family Preservation Services (FPS) in NSW. The briefing highlighted the urgent need for clarity, consistency, and certainty in policy settings to mitigate the current uncertainties surrounding the recommissioning of the Family Preservation Program. You can read the brief here.
- In August 23, Fams hosted a Family Preservation Sector Conversation, where over 90 representatives from across NSW gathered to commence planning for the sector support needs leading to the 2025 recommissioning.
Practice Governance Project
Partnering with the Parenting Research Centre and our network of partner organisations, we’re elevating the sector’s approach to practice governance. Rooted firmly in evidence and transparency, this journey represents a commitment to providing services that are not just safe, but continually improving.
Our journey is fueled by optimism, potential, and the best outcomes where children, families and communities can thrive.
